exploration:
the torture of craft
description:
The torture of craft refers to the cyclical nature of moving between grasping for perfection and then a revertion back to its primitive form, only to ensue in the desire for perfection once more. The investigation takes the form of some brief words on the subject relating to architecture and breakbeats, accompanying illustrations, and a mix of an album that is tied directly to the idea. More info on the mix below:

Mutual Apathy is the first album by dj/producer, and Hotflush Recordings boss Paul Rose, otherwise known as Scuba. Released in 2008 Mutual Apathy exemplifies the "crackle" stream of dubstep that creates a palpable athmosphere, implies an inherent narrative, and gives the listener a space to occupy. Presented here is the 12 track album in a seemless mix, a rather simple feat as each 12" contains multiple tracks that are already blended, intentionally distancing itself from the mainstream single format. It is without a doubt a concept album.

As a point of comparision, blended into the end of the mix is a track entitled "The Evil That Never Arrived" by ambient drone duo The Stars of the Lid. The duos name referring to "your own personal cinema, located between your eye and eyelid."

event:
jungle soldiers - 20 de marzo 2010
description:
Jungle Soldiers is the underground party with the most trajectory in the Santiago Drum and Bass scene. It was born in Santiago de Chile in April of 2005, with the vision of creating a space to enjoy the sounds of Jungle/Drum and Bass provided by both national and international DJ's, producers, and MC's within Chile's capital. Since it's inception Jungle Soldiers has celebrated 3 birthdays with more than 100 parties.

Jungle Soldiers has returned for the 2010 cycle of events, and has teamed up with [spatial breakbeat research]!!! The first event of the year features the sounds of DJ Roach, the undisputed godfather of the scene in Chile. Roach single handedly brought the burgeoning sound from London UK to Santiago Chile in 1991, and has been educating dancefloors ever since with his spectrum spanning sets.

Also featured is the vocal stylings of MC Pab, who has hosted with the likes of Grooverider, Fabio, Bad Company, Bryan G, and Marcus Intalex.

Rounding out the bill is Jungle Soldiers founder Black Soul, and of course new resident dj_navi!

issue 2: "two shades darker"
description:
Addessed in this issue is the use and often misuse of technology, and the possibilities of approaching it "spiritually" with consciousness and ethical responsibility. If we alter the vision of our urban spaces we can regenerate and rejuvenate them using technology to assist in sustainable solutions, economically, environmentally and socially.

The approach is to take one place of study at a time, to focus, and examine it, revealing "scars" in our urban conglomerations, and finding a way to heal them individually and credibly. It allows for fantasticaly dreams of rich possibilities that are firmly grounded in existing sites, rather than to attempt an "utopic" ideal

1. various interconnected devices/buildings that educate on sustainable energies
